Samsung Galaxy Note range may close next year, Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Support to S Pen Support: Report

Samsung is reportedly considering discontinuing the Galaxy Note series from next year. A report states that the popular S Pen (or stylus) with the Galaxy Note series will be introduced in the Samsung Galaxy C21 series next year. Samsung wants to focus on foldable phone releases in the latter part of the year to fill the void of the Galaxy Note line-up launch. According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will come with S Pen support next year.

Korean publication The Alec reports that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra will come with the S Pen next year. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra can be seen as the most premium model in the series, sitting alongside the presumed Samsung Galaxy S21 and Samsung Galaxy S21 +. With the alleged addition of the S Pen to the Galaxy S series, Samsung may break the tradition of keeping it exclusive to the Galaxy Note series.

The report states that next year the code name of Galaxy S21 is ‘Unbound’ and the models are M1, N2 and O3. The top-most model, which is rumored to be the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, is expected to be the ‘O3’ model. According to reports, the Samsung Galaxy S21 range will not come with 3D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor.

Citing its sources, the report stated that the signs for the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 are strong in the second half of 2021, although there is no indication for the launch of the Galaxy Note 21 series. It has been reported in the report that the launch of the Galaxy Note series next year hangs on the sales performance of its foldable devices. After launching the Galaxy Note series in the third quarter, it is reported to sell around 10 million units by the end of each year. Sales of the Galaxy Foldable series have not yet reached that volume. The report noted that first-generation Galaxy Fold units recorded cumulative sales of one million units in the first quarter of last year, significantly lower than the Galaxy Note range.

In addition, production of ultra thin glass (UTG) materials for foldable phones has also not reached optimal capacity. The report states that even though production of UTG glass has increased by one million units per month, the rumored Galaxy Z Fold 3 sales will be six million units for only six months of sales. This is almost four million less than the sales of the Galaxy Note series.

Samsung would not like to reduce its smartphone market share by ending the Galaxy Note line-up, although a decision is expected to take place after considering the sale of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which is expected to go on sale from next month. Apparently, if things go right for Samsung this year and the sale of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is promised, the company will reportedly absorb the S Pen in the Galaxy S21 line-up and complete the Galaxy Note series Is considering the possibility of finishing the way.
