Google Photos gets a brand new design with a new simple interface, a completely new logo, a new map view in the search tab, and a more comprehensive memories section. Starting next week, both Android and iOS users are redesigning. The For You ‘tab which currently contains all Google creations such as movies, collages and animations, is now mixed with memories. The new Google Photos app now has only three tabs in front – Photos, Search and Library. The photos section has all your recent images as well as a carousel of memories.
The Google Photos interface has now been decluttered to include only three tabs. The first tab, Photos, now has larger thumbnails, auto-playing videos, and less white space between photos. The Memories Carousel is also part of the Photos tab, and this section combines and highlights all the best photographs over the years. The ‘For You’ tab has been removed, and from there all content creation has been moved to the memory section. It includes automated creations such as movies, collages, animations, stylized photos and more.
The Search tab sits in the middle, and provides quick access to people, places, and some of the things previously found in the ‘tab tab’, which have also been removed. There is a new interactive map that lets you view photos and videos based on the area you pinch and zoom into the map. This new feature should work for users who have enabled the location in their device camera or if the location has been added manually for the photo. If users do not want to save the location, they can choose to turn off the camera location permission in the location history.
The last tab is the library, and includes items such as albums, favorites, trash, collections and more. Users in the US, EU and Canada will also find print stores here, where they are able to purchase printed products from a collection of select photographs.
As mentioned, Google Photos also gets a new icon. The pinwheel shape remains, but it is a simpler and smoother version of the earlier logo. The update is slowly ending, and if you can’t wait, Android users can download it via APK Mirror. Google says that both Android and iOS users should receive the update in a week’s time.
