88% of Indians believe social media ban to be right in an emergency, 61% of people trust viral messages

The government temporarily bans social media platforms to prevent the spread of rumors in emergency situations like mob lynching and terrorist attacks. Social media ban helps a lot in overcoming the situation. According to a survey by market research firm IPSOS, 88% of Indians support social media bans made during emergencies.

  • IPSOS says the survey was conducted between 24 May and 7 June 2019. It included 19,823 adults aged 18–74 years in the US, South Africa, Turkey and Canada, and 16–74 years of age in other countries.
