A First Look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5: Alleged Renders Show Massive Cover Screen

Rumors have circulated that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a much larger exterior display than that of the Oppo Find N2 Flip. Renderings of what this could look like have been revealed, showcasing a dual camera layout at the top, next to a small display, with a massive display covering the majority of the phone’s width and height.

It is also believed that Samsung will be using a waterdrop-style fold for a less prominent crease on their upcoming foldable. Tweets from SuperRoader and Technizo Concept have provided further speculation of what the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 might look like. It remains to be seen if the phone will feature a dual outer display, as the benefit of this would be the ability to conduct everyday tasks without having to unfold the device. Motorola and Oppo have already implemented such a feature on their foldable, with Oppo having the potential to do more. The waterdrop-style hinge is expected to reduce the creasing of the display.

I don’t envisage Samsung using a dual exterior display, given the size of the external screen. The primary benefit of a larger outer screen is that it allows the user to carry out most everyday tasks without needing to open the phone every time. It is a feature many people are eagerly anticipating in Samsung’s next flip phone. Motorola was on the right path with its initial Razr foldable and Oppo expanded on this idea with its Find N2 Flip. While the latter was good, it still had a lot of untapped potential, as discussed in a recent podcast. Additionally, the informant also claimed in another tweet that Samsung intends to use a waterdrop-hinge to decrease the creasing of the folding display. With last year’s foldable launch in mind, we should anticipate Samsung’s next foldable phones to arrive between August and September. This is also when Qualcomm usually unveils its more powerful and more energy-efficient flagship SoC, which implies the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 SoC. Other specifications could comprise an IP rating, improved wireless charging, better cameras, and hopefully a bigger battery.
