Telecom service providers like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone have banned most popular porn sites in India. In order to reinforce cyber crime and child pornography such as revenge porn in strict compliance with the instructions of the government and the orders of the courts, On one hand, porn websites have been banned. They have been blocked, but viewing porn in the country is not illegal.
Is it a crime to watch porn on restricted websites?

Restraint on porn sites after court interference
The Department of Telecom (DOT) ordered to downgrade 857 websites from Internet service providers in 2015. This was done to control cyber crime. However, after the criticisms the government later partially relaxed on porn ban. The ban on websites which did not contain child pornography was lifted. The government took this decision on ban on porn websites when an advocate filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that sex crime is being promoted due to online porn.
In year 2018, the Uttarakhand High Court also ordered internet service providers to ban 827 websites. Actually, a student of 10th student in Dehradun had gangraped 4 senior students of the same. The accused later told that they used to watch online porn. After this, the High Court ordered internet service providers to ban porn sites.
