Rumor has it that Apple is planning to expand the availability of the eSIM-only option for the iPhone 15 series to more countries this year. This would mark a shift from last year’s iPhone 14 series, which only offered an eSIM option for the United States, while other markets retained the physical SIM card slot. iGeneration, a French website, reported that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models will have an eSIM-only variant selling in France. This could indicate that other European countries may follow suit and do away with the physical SIM card slot on the iPhone this year.
eSIM technology has been available on iPhones since the 2018 iPhone Xs series and the iPhone XR models. This allowed dual SIM connectivity, enabling users to pair the device with networks without the need for a physical SIM card. Since then, other brands such as Google and Samsung have adopted the technology as well.
On the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple stated that customers can arrange up to eight eSIM profiles, eliminating the requirement to frequently switch connections for frequent travelers. Rumors are circulating that Apple will introduce its next iPhone series in September this year, yet the organization has not revealed any information on the forthcoming iPhone 15 lineup. A recent report proposed that Apple will present the Dynamic Island feature, originally seen on the iPhone 14 Pro models, on all four iPhone 15 models.
