Although 5G support is not yet available everywhere, many companies have already started pushing 5G capacity smartphones. Apple is no different. Recently it was reported that Apple hopes to launch iPhones with 5G support this year. It was also reported that Apple will use Qualcomm 5G modem chips in its 2020 iPhones.
However, the latest report from Fast Company suggests that Apple may launch its own antenna for 5G-enabled iPhones instead of using Qualcomm’s QTM 525 mm weight antenna module.
Although there has been no confirmation from Apple about this, the report explains why Apple might consider making its 5G antenna.
Apparently, there are two reasons behind this decision: Qualcomm’s 5G antennas are larger, which can make iPhones look thicker, and Qualcomm may have to pay more to buy those parts, adding to the cost of the device.
This is not the first time that Apple is going to come with its own antenna. Back in 2012, Apple launched the iPhone 4 with its own antenna but the result was not as good as Apple had hoped . Users complained that reception was weakened when the device was placed in a certain way. To rectify this, Apple acknowledged the problem, stating that there was a problem with the sensor and that they were working on the issue. He also said that anyone who faced #AntennaGate could take advantage of the free bumper and if they had already purchased a bumper, the bumper price would be refunded. In addition, if a user is still dissatisfied with their product, Apple will refund the money paid for the phone.
To recall, Apple hopes to launch 5.4-inch, 6.7-inch, and two 6.1-inch iPhone models in the upcoming lineup.
