Telecom companies coming to QR code in customer verification

Telecom companies may continue to use the QR code system instead of the base number for verification of new customers. These companies say that confirming information based on the base number of 12 digits is more expensive.
Rajan Mathew, Director General, Cellular Operators Association of India, said, “Telecom companies are trying to use the current method of electronic verification. It may include using the form generated as a form of one of the documents generated from the customer’s base, QR code. ‘
In the current process of customer verification, telecom companies have to make a physical check of their details. To avoid filling the form with hand, the proof of identification QR code with the Aadhar card can be scanned.
The government had said some time ago that if the customers offer their own intention, then telecom companies will be allowed to use the basis for verification. This gave rise to expectations of completion of verification. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which issued the base, decided to bring a charge for base-based authentication at the beginning of this month. The notification issued by UIDAI stated that private companies using base services will have to pay Rs. 20.50 for each customer verification.
Mathews said, “Sometimes due to problems related to the network, accessing the database can be difficult. Base-based authentication can be fast, but telecom companies are e-KYC systems as a safe choice.

UIDAI issued this notification voluntarily after the recent ordinance allowing base-based digital verification. After blocking the use of the base on private companies of Supreme Court in September, the telecom companies stopped the use of the basis for instant verification of the customer.

Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and GeoInfoCom did not respond to questions sent by ET about this. There is a debt of more than Rs 7 lakh crore on telecom sector and it is making a lot of efforts to cut costs.
The price war between telecom companies has also affected the financial condition of these companies. Since coming into Geo Market, competition has begun to reduce tariffs in telecom sector.
