Samsung recently introduced a skin temperature-based sensor for tracking menstrual health on its Galaxy Watch 5 series. The tech giant is now reportedly looking to develop more health-tracking features based on skin temperature. At the moment, the menstrual cycle tracking feature is available in 32 countries, including Korea, the United States, and European regions.
A Samsung official, who is in charge of the company’s Health Service, announced via the Samsung community forum for Korea that the company will expand the usage of the skin temperature sensor to provide more health-tracking features in a future software update. However, details regarding the health tracking features or the timeline of their rollout have not been shared yet.
The skin temperature-based menstrual cycle tracking sensor is currently available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro. It utilizes infrared technology to monitor changes in body temperature and provide an accurate reading of the menstrual cycle. You can access this feature on the Samsung Health app.
At the moment, the feature is being rolled out across 32 countries, including Korea, the US, and 30 European countries. Unfortunately, there is no information on when this feature will be available in India. Security-wise, Samsung claims that the data collected by the sensor are encrypted and stored on the user’s device.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series was released in August 2022. It includes the Galaxy Watch 5 in two sizes and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The smartwatch offers features such as heart rate and SpO2 monitoring, stress levels tracker, and support for ECG and blood pressure monitoring.
